The English Language

 

English Speaking CountriesThe first language of most of the people in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand is English. Additionally, it is the official language of about 15 countries in Africa. In India, it has the title of “associate official language”. Many countries , report it as the unofficial second language. Factually, it is the mother tongue of about 375 million people.

But the number of people who speak English with at least some degree of proficiency is likely to be twice as large.

International schools teach English as a first language, and it is together with Cantonese the first or second foreign language at local schools in Hong Kong.
