Below is a brief introduction to the three main German examinations we cover.
Goethe-Zertifikat
The Goethe-Zertifikat is a globally recognised German language qualification awarded by the Goethe-Institut. It is offered at levels A1 through C2, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
These examinations are widely accepted by universities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as by employers and immigration authorities. The tests assess reading, writing, listening, and speaking, with a particular focus on practical communication skills and cultural understanding.
Ideal for: Adult learners, professionals, and students seeking official certification for study, work, or residency purposes.
IGCSE German
The IGCSE German qualification is offered by Cambridge Assessment International Education, Edexcel, AQA and is designed primarily for students aged 14 to 16. The examination assesses reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills at a level equivalent to the first two to three years of senior secondary education.
The qualification is widely recognised by schools and universities worldwide and serves as an excellent foundation for further study, including A-Levels or the IB Diploma.
Ideal for: Secondary school students (Years 10–11 / Forms 4–5) preparing for university-track qualifications.
IB German
The IB German course is a core component of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, available at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). Students may choose between Language B (for those with prior experience) and Ab Initio (for beginners).
The curriculum covers five core themes: Identities, Experiences, Human Ingenuity, Social Organisation, and Sharing the Planet. At Higher Level, students also study two literary works in German, adding depth to their linguistic and cultural analysis.
Ideal for: Secondary school students (Years 12–13 / Forms 6–7) pursuing the IB Diploma.
