French for Teens (Ages 12–17) – Building Skills for the Future

The teenage years are a time of growth, exploration, and preparation for the future. For many students, this is also the stage when language learning becomes more focused and goal-oriented. At our school, we offer French lessons specially designed for teenagers aged 12 to 17, helping them build confidence, fluency, and the academic skills needed for examination success and beyond.

Why French for This Age Group?

French is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, with nearly 300 million speakers across five continents. It is a language of culture, diplomacy, and international business—and a valuable asset for university admissions and career prospects. For teenagers, learning French offers a range of benefits:

  • Academic achievement – French is a popular subject for IGCSE and IB examinations, and strong results can enhance university applications.
  • Cognitive development – Studying a second language sharpens analytical thinking, problem-solving, and memory.
  • Cultural awareness – Exposure to French-speaking cultures fosters open-mindedness and a global perspective.
  • Career preparation – Proficiency in French opens doors to careers in international relations, business, hospitality, and beyond.

At this age, students are capable of engaging with more complex linguistic and cultural content, making it the ideal time to deepen their understanding and refine their skills.

Our Approach – Engaging and Goal-Oriented

We understand that teenagers need lessons that are both stimulating and relevant to their academic and personal goals. Our French courses for ages 12 to 17 are designed to be interactive, practical, and aligned with examination requirements. Our classes include:

  • Real-world communication – Role-plays, debates, and discussions on topics such as current affairs, environment, technology, and youth culture.
  • Grammar and vocabulary building – Structured yet engaging exercises that reinforce accuracy and expand linguistic range.
  • Reading and listening comprehension – Exposure to authentic materials such as news articles, podcasts, and short literary texts.
  • Writing practice – Developing skills in various text types, including essays, letters, reports, and creative writing.
  • Cultural exploration – Delving into French and francophone traditions, cinema, literature, and social issues.

Our native or near-native instructors are experienced in teaching teenagers. They are approachable, knowledgeable, and skilled at creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to express themselves and take risks in their learning.

IGCSE and IB French Preparation

For students preparing for formal examinations, we offer specialised courses tailored to the requirements of the IGCSE and IB French programmes.

  • IGCSE French – Our IGCSE preparation courses cover all four skill areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students receive extensive practice with past papers, examination techniques, and vocabulary tailored to the syllabus. We offer both Core and Extended level preparation to suit different abilities.
  • IB French (Language B and Ab Initio) – For students pursuing the IB Diploma, we provide comprehensive preparation at both Standard Level and Higher Level. Our courses cover the five core themes—Identities, Experiences, Human Ingenuity, Social Organisation, and Sharing the Planet—with a strong emphasis on oral and written production. For beginners, we offer Ab Initio preparation to build foundational skills.

Our examination preparation courses include regular mock tests, individual feedback, and targeted support to help students achieve their best possible results.
