SAT Subject Tests are college admission exams on specific subjects for secondary students who target to obtain an offer from a university located in the United States. These are the only national admission tests where you choose the tests that best showcase your strengths and interests.
Each Subject Test is an hour long. They are all multiple-choice and scored on a 200–800 scale.
Subject Tests test you on your knowledge of subjects on a high school level. The best way to prepare is to take the relevant courses and work hard in them.

Literature Subject Test
Introduction
The Literature Subject Test gives you the opportunity to highlight your strengths in reading and interpreting literary texts from a variety of historical periods and genres. Taking the test also gives you the opportunity to showcase your interests and enhance your college application.
Anticipated Skills
Knowledge of basic literary terminology, such as irony, stanza, image, tone, alliteration, and speaker (highly specialised terms are not covered).
Understanding of the following literary concepts
Overall meaning, including effect and theme
Form, including structure, genre, and organization
Use of language, including word choice, imagery and metaphor
Meanings and connotations of specific words in context
Narrative voice, including tone and attitude
Characterisation in narrative and dramatic selections
Recommended Preparation
3–4 years of literary study at the college-preparatory level
Close, critical reading in English and American literature from a variety of historical periods and genres
Reading of complete novels and plays — not just excerpts
Independent, critical reading of poetry, prose, and drama
Chinese with Listening Subject Test
Introduction
The Chinese with Listening Subject Test is a great way to demonstrate your knowledge of written and spoken Mandarin. Whether you learned the language in a high school class or outside of school, this test can help you highlight your achievements and interest in the Chinese language.
Anticipated Skills
Ability to understand spoken Mandarin Chinese and identify what is being said in short, spoken dialogues and narratives about everyday topics.
Ability to complete sentences in a way that is appropriate in terms of structure (grammar), vocabulary, and context.
Identifying usage that is both structurally correct and contextually appropriate.
Understanding of such points as the main and supporting ideas, themes, and setting of a passage. Some of the passages are based on real-life materials such as timetables, forms, advertisements, notes, letters, diaries, and newspaper articles.
Recommended Preparation
2–4 years of Mandarin Chinese language study in high school, or the equivalent
Gradual development of competence in the language over a period of years

French (with Listening) Subject Test
Introduction
The French Subject Test is a great way to highlight your knowledge of written French and demonstrate your interest in the French language on your college applications. Plus, a strong score could help you fulfill basic language competency requirements or place out of introductory-level French courses.
Anticipated Skills
Knowledge of words representing different parts of speech and some basic idioms within culturally appropriate contexts.
Ability to select an appropriate word or expression that is grammatically correct within a sentence. One part of the test contains vocabulary and structure questions embedded in longer paragraphs.
Understanding of such points as the main and supporting ideas, themes, and setting of a passage. Selections are drawn from fiction, essays, historical works, newspaper and magazine articles, and everyday materials such as advertisements, timetables, forms, and tickets.

The German Subject Test allows you to showcase your ability to read and understand the German language. In addition to complementing or enhancing your admission portfolio, it may also give you a head start in college by allowing you to fulfill basic language competency requirements or place out of introductory level German courses.
Anticipated Skills
Knowledge of words representing different parts of speech and some basic idioms within culturally appropriate contexts.
Ability to select an appropriate word or expression that is grammatically correct within a sentence. One part of the test contains vocabulary and structure questions embedded in longer paragraphs.
Understanding of such points as the main and supporting ideas, themes, and setting of a passage. Selections are drawn from fiction, essays, historical works, newspaper and magazine articles, and such everyday materials as advertisements, timetables, forms, and tickets.
Ability to read passages representative of various styles and levels of difficulty. Each test edition has several prose passages followed by questions that test your understanding of the passage. The passages, mostly adapted from literary sources and newspapers or magazines, are generally one or two paragraphs in length and test whether you can identify the main idea or comprehend facts or details in the text.
