DELF/DALF

The Diplomas

The DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) are the official French-language diplomas awarded by France’s Ministry of National Education. It is recognized around the world and is valid for life. More than 300,000 diplomas are awarded each year. As an official certification of second-language proficiency, the DELF and DALF tests the ability of students to use French in real-life situations.

Proficiency Levels

DELF

  • A1 (Discovery Stage)
  • A2 (Basic User)
  • B1 (Independent)
  • B2 (Degree of Independence)

DALF

  • C1 (Complete Independence)
  • C2 (Proficiency)

Benefits

  • it is an international recognition of French proficiency;
  • it is a testimonial to a student’s success in learning French: it recognizes the student’s accomplishments in French proficiency;
  • it is an internationally recognized official document that
    enriches the student’s school or professional portfolio;
  • it is accepted in universities in France (B2 or higher level);

Depending on the age of the candidates DELF diplomas
are divided in:

  • Tous Publics (for adults)
  • Junior et Scolaire (for secondary schools students)
  • Prim (for primary schools students – A1 level only)

People who have passed the DALF (C1 or C2) are exempt from taking language tests for entrance into French universities.
